The Book Store

The story begins with fifteen-year-old Beth and her brother Sam, who are orphaned and decide to seek a new life in America. 

• On a steamer to New York, they form a group with two others, Theo and Jack, to seek their fortunes.
• Beth achieves success playing her fiddle in saloons, where fans nickname her "Gypsy".
• After trouble with local gangsters, the group flees to Canada to join the Klondike gold rush, embarking on a treacherous journey through snowy mountains and rapids toward the Yukon valley.

Set in 1910, the story follows fifteen-year-old Belle, who was raised in a London brothel but remains innocent of its activities. After witnessing the murder of one of the girls, she is kidnapped and sold into prostitution, eventually being taken to New Orleans. The novel tracks her transformation into a courtesan and her dangerous journey to escape and return home to her family.

The story is a romantic suspense novel focused on Shelby Pomeroy, whose life is upended after her husband, Richard, dies in a freak accident.
