Deaf Sentence – David Lodge

The story follows Desmond Bates, a recently retired linguistics professor who is coping with progressive hearing loss.

Bates finds himself struggling with the challenges of aging, his wife’s more successful career, and caring for his elderly father. His deafness leads to misunderstandings and complications, especially when he becomes involved with a student.
