According to World of Books, the novel follows private investigator Philip Marlowe as he is hired by a “dried-up husk of a woman” to recover a rare gold coin known as the Brasher Doubloon. Marlowe soon discovers that anyone who handles the coin ends up dead, leading him through a trail of corpses in Los Angeles.
